I`ve played around with pulseaudio and alsamixer, no recorded sound yet but added the line below to the end of alsa-base.conf in etc/modprobe.d: options snd-hda-intel positionfix=1 Restarted the pc went to kmix and found this: The headphone slider seems to have disappeared. Not sure if it´s supposed to be like that but it could be the problem. Another point i should make is that i use an external video/audio card i.e. A no driver needed setup, just pnp. So, i use the headphone socket via 3.5 mm jack to this video/sound card and the signals are combined to give me an hdmi feed back into the tv. All this seems to be overkill though - must be easier ways of recording computer sound.

Anyway, the tutorials on youtube are basically the same ( seen a few ) and nothing new to add. I will give it another shot but looks like no sound for me - at least not on present rig. Code: lsusb -v Just in case the mic is a seperate usb connection. If inxi is not in synaptic. Which I will find funny because I have it in Puppy package manager in Carolina 1.2 and Salix Slackware 14.1. Then here are the install instructions outside of a Ubuntu repository. It is not hard to install.
It is just a information gathering script. Kinda like bootinfo script. Instead of wiping out my typing. I looked back and saw you are running Kubuntu 10.04. Which is no longer supported.
So synaptic looks to be out of the question. So do this in terminal. I run Kubuntu lucid 10.04 and i really would like to upgrade, unfortunately my mediacentre would stop working. That one flew over my head when I first posted because you mentioned installing pulse audio and removing other stuff.'
Care to explain why your media center would be lost if you went with like Xubuntu 14.04 LTS ot Lubuntu 14.04 LTS instead of Ubuntu 10.04 dead in the water? Because my Media Center. A Emachine 3507, still exists, through periodic AntiX testing installs. I have all my media backed up on the 2nd IDE hard drive as well as certain /home config files I export from install to reinstall. Gone slightly off topic but part relevant.
The pc is a hybrid, it`s primary function is to receive tv/sat/cable signals via upto 6 pciexpress cards. This part has an x1200 ati combined graphics/audio card with hdmi output. You use this part of the pc as a tv using the RC gaining access to web browsers or mediaplayer via the vdr. One shot 90 vol 1 download. Added to this is a fully fledged kubuntu 10.04 lucid install, this time the video/audio part is integrated into the motherboard. This is where the pc functions as is - browser, mediaplayer, sudo, apt, etc.
On installing 14.04 would lose a package called Reelbox-vdr which runs the tv/sat/cable side of the hybrid i.e. The x1200 ati card would cease to function.
Movies on this card look incredible and that`s on a max 720p but looks sharper than on the pc side. Packages were held back or refused to install on an upgrade to 12.04 and that`s where i saw i would lose the Reelbox-vdr. Had a gt-210 geforce nvidia graphics card that i wanted to install because on the upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04 the dvi output went black as night. That`s when i decided to install a vga to hdmi ( with audio ) converter.
Vga and headphones jack output to the converter inputs and back out muxed together as one via hdmi. Still have the gt-210 with hardware acceleration but hell to get working ( next project maybe )- still it`s somewhere. Konsole readouts below in code or download text document.
