Dishwashers are a stroke of modern genius, eliminating everyone's least favorite household chore with ease. However, since most households use them almost daily, it's no surprise that the door springs can get worn out over time. When this happens, they need to be fixed or replaced; in most cases, replacement is the best solution.

Failure to fix this problem can actually result in and even down the road, so read the steps below and change out your bad springs as quickly as possible. Preliminary Safety Precautions and Tips Before you start on replacing the door springs, your dishwasher should be disconnected from the power source. It’s best to do this via the fuse box, as this will make sure sudden electrical shocks won’t happen. Wear safety glasses as well. Since most springs are under a lot of tension, they tend to leap out once removed. In order to lessen the tension, the dishwasher door should be partially closed if possible. When a spring needs replacement, it is advisable to replace all of them instead of just the one.

Otherwise, you may need to perform this task again every few months as each old spring wears out. Working with Springs Generally, there are two ways in which door springs are assembled. One type attaches from a hook to the hinge of the dishwasher’s cabinet. Refer to your owner's manual for a graphical reference. The other kind of assembly attaches the spring to a cable, which is in turn connected to a pulley and the dishwasher’s door. Step 1 - Get Access to the Door Spring First, you need to remove the lower panel under the door.

Normally, there are two screws located on top of or below the panel holding it in place that need to be taken care of. There are cases where you have to initially open the dishwasher door to be able to unscrew these. The door should then be closed in order to remove the panel itself. Step 2 - Remove Springs The hook of the spring should be lifted from its anchor point. You can use your fingers to do so, but if there is a large amount of tension, it’s best to use a screwdriver or pliers to be safe. Position the shaft under the hook and pull down.

Then, try lifting the anchor. To make things easier, locate a leverage point. This should help the screwdriver force the spring out.

Repeat your method for every the anchor point for each screw, and set them aside. Step 3 - Install new Springs You will initially have to deal with the positioning of the lower spring hook; it should be placed within the first hole. Take note of the adjustment bracket when doing this, and be sure it follows the previous set up. If the spring needs more tension, try positioning the spring hook further towards the back of the adjustment bracket.

The end of the spring for the counter balance of the door should be mounted on the door support. Find the slot on the support and insert it. Simple as that, your new springs are in place! Replace all covers and door panels when you've finished, and test the door to check for any problems.

Hi there folks. I have a four year old Lamona (Beko-based?) dishwasher. The dishes are not being cleaned, and there appears to be a lack of heat - no steam when the door opens. On occasions, the tablet does not dissolve either. The cycle appears to run and water enters and is drained. I have obtained the Lamona fault matrix service manual and run the cycle and interrogated the 'five light' fault code system.

This code system does not seem too reliable but I have now got the NTC faulty code (not the heater error, curiously). In your expert opinions, should I just replace the NTC, or could it be the heater that is more likely to be faulty?

After four years, should I just bite the bullet and buy a new machine for say £300? It gets used at least once every two days. I would very much appreciate your help with this. Kind regards Whitegoods Newbie Posts: 3 Joined: Wed Dec 17, 2014 11:42 am.
